Surgital returns to the Bacchini family

The Italian group based in Lavezzola (Ravenna) – a leading producer of fresh frozen pasta – has repurchased 16% of Surgital's capital. Consolidated turnover amounts to €55 million

Bacchini family is once again the owner of 100% of the capital of Surgital, which is Italy’s leading producer of fresh frozen pasta, ready meals, and nugget sauces for the catering and bar channels. A few days ago, Bacchini family (in the picture above) repurchased the minority shareholding held since 2013 by the Fondo Italiano d’Investimento (Italian investment fund) – managed by Neuberger Berman AIFM Limited – which had invested in the Surgital group to support an important growth project in view of the international development. Edoardo Bacchini, Managing Director of Surgital, declared: The entry of the Fondo Italiano d’Investimento in 2013 aimed at protecting the investments that the company had made, enabling them to be effectively realised. The goal, once the natural five-year term of the contract had elapsed, was that of repurchase of the shares.

Surgital’s figures

Founded by the Bacchini family in 1980 as a small artisan workshop, Surgital has been able to bring the genuineness of its products to an industrial scale producing 135 tons of fresh pasta, 60,000 ready meals and 8 tons of single portion nuggets every day, employing over 320 employees. In addition to the production facility in Lavezzola (Ravenna, Emilia-Romagna), there are two sales branches in France (Lyon) and in the United States (Florida). Surgital is led by Romana Tamburini, founder and current president, by her son Massimiliano and her daughters Elena and Enrica. The group’s consolidated turnover rose from €55 million in 2013 to €75 million in 2017, an increase of 36% – thanks also to an industrial investment plan implemented in recent years. The workforce increased from 2013, rising from 213 employees to 329 at the end of 2017. This growth is also due to the company’s entry into the world of retail catering through Ca’ Pelletti Retail company. The plant, which covers an area of 60,000 square metres, has 29 production lines. An important part of the company are the 70,000 cubic metres of cold rooms, with an automated refrigerated warehouse where over 600 products are stored. All of these are prepared with excellent raw materials and ingredients of the Italian tradition, many of which are PDO certified.
